Green Smoothies

Green Smoothies are all the rage! Packed with valuable minerals, vitamins and anti-oxidants, they are a great daily addition to your diet and are refreshing and delicious to boot! Below are some green Smoothie recipe ideas but we encourage you to experiment and find what combo you like the best.

These recipes were put together by the Naturopaths at the Melbourne Holistic Health Group, as part of the MHHG and OG Health Partnership

BASIC GREEN SMOOTHIE

- 2 cups of spinach/kale/chard

- 1 orange

- 1 cup strawberries

- 2 kiwifruit

- 1 cup (250ml) Coconut water

 

VARIATION 1

- 4-5 silverbeet (or any chard) leaves with the hard stalk removed.

- A quarter of a lemon (peel the skin, but leave the pith)

- 1-2 green apples

- 1 small Lebanese cucumber

- 1 small handful of mint (or to taste)

- Water for desired consistency

 

VARIATION 3

- 2 cups spinach

 ½ cucumber

 ½ cup each of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries

 ½ cup rehydrated goji berries (ie soaked overnight, and use the water that you have soaked them in for your smoothie too!)

 6 almonds

 1 tsp spirulina

 1 cup coconut water.

 

 

 VARIATION 2

- 2 bunches of baby Bok Choy

- Squeeze of lemon

- 1 kiwi

- ½ of a banana

- 1 orange

- 1 piece of ginger

- Water for desired consistency

VARIATION 4

- 3 large kale leaves (hard stalk removed)

- 2 small bananas or 1.5 large

- 6 to 10 strawberries

- 6 almonds

- 1-2 tablespoons coconut flakes

Coconut water and water for 

desired consistency

 

 

 METHOD

Blend all ingredients and serve!

 

SMOOTHIE EXTRAS

These can be used to spice up the flavour, change the texture, and increase the nutritional value of your smoothie:

Ginger, cinnamon powder, almond butter, chia seeds, flax seeds, goji berries, almonds or raw cacao powder.
